Comment from Dr. Mladenoff

This is a profound study because it illustrates the effect of pro-active preventative treatment. If you laser the area of injury before the injury then the inflammatory cascade is down regulated. In this study laser therapy was administed to skeletal muscle before the injury.

In head contact sports, ie. sports where you know your head will hit something like football and soccer, then lasering the head before the game could be a key proactive preventive measure.

Using laser therapy at the injury site before injury and after injury produced significant down regulation of mRNA expression of MyoD myogenin and IL-6 at 3 days and 7 days post injury.

Best care scenario laser the area of anticipated predictable injury beofre and after injury. Worst case scenario laser the injured area immediately after the traum. The result sis down regulation of inflammatory cascade that will lead to faster recovery.

Comparative Effects of Low Level Laser Therapy Pre and Post-Injury on mRNA expression of MyoD,  myogenin, and IL-6 during the skeletal muscle repair.   Lasers in Medical Science 2016 May; 31(4):679-85.

Abstract:
This animal (rat) study analyzed the effect of pre-injury and post injury low-level laser therapy on the mRNA expression of myogenic regulatory factors and interleukin 6 (IL-6) during the skeletal muscle repair.

A significant reduction was found in the expression IL-6mRNA at 3 days and 7 days in the pre-injury LLLT and post injury LLLT groups.

LLLT administered following muscle injury modulates mRNA expression of MyoD and myogenin.

Both forms of LLLT treatment were able to modulate mRNA expression of IL-6 during muscle repair process.
